Amazon slip reveals Microsoft’s Blue Track mini-mouse technology

After running a brief teaser animation through its official Web site that ends with the tantalising tagline “Say Goodbye to Laser,” it would appear that Microsoft’s upcoming laser-replacing revelation is in no-way related to optical discs but actually a brand new computer mouse. Squeak!

The connection was made earlier this week when diligent Engadget readers uncovered pre-release product pages for a new “MS Explorer Mini Mouse with Blue Track technology” on Amazon.de and the YouGame online store. Haloed in a blue glow, pictures of the mouse reveal it to be emblazoned with the same logo offered up at the end of Microsoft’s short animation clip.

The clip also closes with what’s thought to be a press event date beneath the new logo design, which should see the American softwaregiant officially whip the covers off Blue Track this coming September 09.

According to YouGame’s write up of the “revolutionary” technology, Blue Track will surpass current optical and laser mouse capabilities by offering “excellent performance and accuracy on most surfaces (raw wood, granite and carpeting included),” which will allow users to control their computers from almost anywhere.

Charged through its own base, the “accurate and fast” Blue Track mouse is described as being ideal for notebooks thanks to its compact sizing, while its elegant design, blue luminescence and metal finishing grant it an exclusive style.

According to the ever-watchful techsperts at T3, Blue Track is essentially a blue LED combined with a wide-angled lens to provide mouse users with increased navigational accuracy and surface compatibility than they would expect to receive through existing laser mice.

Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. has not yet released any official comment on Blue Track or the Sept. 09 date accompanying its teaser clip.

Update: Amazon appears to have now removed the Blue Track Mini-Mouse page, although the YouGame page is still posted at time of publishing.
