   StarTech has unveiled its USB 3.0 ExpressCard which features a couple of ports to get you all started with USB 3.0. But there are a few problems though. These SuperSpeed USB ports won’t have the juice to supply a full 900mA for each port.

   Sony in Japan has introduced the smallest USB biometric scanner yet, for reading users’ finger vein patterns. This new smallest yet is called the FVA-U1. Sony labels the technology mofiria and says that it’s more accurate and secure than fingerprint readers since it relies on unique blood vein patterns in the finger. The FVA-U1 connects to PCs via USB 2.0.

     It’s pretty well known that wireless Internet speeds in North America are lagging greatly behind those of the rest of the modernized world. Blame it on government bureaucracy or unwillingness to spend the capital, whatever the case the public has been starving for faster speeds with little hope of relief. Today, Canadian telecomm giant Rogers has announced a North American first. Rogers network will be evolving from 3.5G (up to 7.2 Mbps) to HSPA+ (up to 21 Mbps). The nationwide rollout is ongoing and has started this month with Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto Ottawa and Montreal.

A-DATA unveils N002 USB 3.0/SATA II dual interface flash drive

Toshiba introduces new USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drives

     Sony has unveiled a brand new set of USB flash storage devices under its Micro-Vault product line that has added a novel design feature to the ubiquitous device. They’ve removed the cap. I think it’s partly because they know that about 99% of USB flash drive users will lose them within the first 30 seconds of use and partly because they had a much better idea. The new Click series of Micro-Vault flash drives has integrated a ballpoint pen-like clickable feature that causes the business end of the drive to pop out when it’s depressed. Click it once, it’s open. Click it again, it’s closed. There’s got to be some marketing gold in there somewhere.

Toshiba ships dynadock U wireless USB notebook hub

    Toshiba on Thursday began shipping a new version of the dynadock U as its first wireless docking station for notebooks. The device uses an ultra wideband link to connect as many as six USB devices at once but also has enough bandwidth for Ethernet, wireless audio and video: it can put out up to a 1920x1200 image on a secondary DVI or VGA display and 7.1-channel audio through speakers attached to the dock. Sound also works in both directions and will let webcams send audio over the wireless link.
